Victoria Gertenbach
Victoria Gertenbach is a local fiber and mixed media artist. With a great affection for people and things from the past, her artwork, (which includes collages, art quilts, wearables, handmade books, shrines and ornaments) often incorporates and features vintage and retro pieces.
Using old photographic images, bits of aged textiles and buttons, along with various ephemera, odds and ends, Victoria seeks to convey stories, memories and messages that create a connection between the past and the present.
Victoria is a frequent contributing artist and writer for the art and craft periodicals Legacy, and the award winning Somerset Studio, where she was recently honored to receive a six page spread in their March/April 2006 issue. Victoria's art has also apperared in ARTitude, The Reporter (Woman's American ORT), Quilting Arts Magazine and Gallery.
Victorias work appears in three books to date; Transparent Art, Material Visions: A Gallery of Miniature Art Quilts and Artist Trading Cards: An Anthology of ATC'S (All published by Stampington & Company).
In 2004 Victoria's work was selected to be part of Somerset Studio's Material Visions exhibit at the Huston, Texas International Quilt Festival.
In 2003 Victoria's work was part of the national Sulkey of America traveling fiber art exhibit where she received an Honorable Mention in the Professional Wearable Art category.
Victoria Gertenbach graduated in 1986 from the Pennsylvania School of Art and Design, (now known as Pennsylvania College of Art and Design.) She lives in northern Lancaster County with her husband and children.
